Dating Man Dating Woman
The dating game goes back to Adam and Eve.
Though I'm still open to being convinced about the apple !!
All this came to mind as I sat eating my lunch outdoors today. What a beautiful day it's been; the summer heatwave seems a distant memory and the pleasant, warm sunshine today was such a treat. So, anyway, I had a delicious salad and then sat munching my crispy Granny Smith apple.
I'm not a great apple fan and I actually surprised myself by fancying one at lunchtime. I guess it was because my daughter brought me a basket of fruit when she came over a few days ago and there were a few Granny Smiths in it. Normally,I wouldn't have had an apple in the house.
Anyway, I live in Wiltshire and the views from my garden are rather outstanding. So, green fields and apples made me think about Adam and Eve, the Garden of Eden, forbidden fruit and all that. Now, I'm not an overly religious person, as I said I'm yet to be convinced about the apple, though modern dating man dating woman still resembles days of yore in many ways.
Although we're incredibly liberated emotionally, sexually and every other which way these days, we do still seem to follow the age old rules of the dating game. At least my 'mature' generation seems to anyhow. It's still the man who's expected to ask the woman for a date.
It seems different for the young people today, although my daughter assures me she would never dream of asking any man for a date. But we are talking about the conventional dating rule here.
Internet dating, however, is a totally different ball game. And it's perfectly OK for a woman to make the first contact with a man. When there is a screen, a keyboard and a whole lot of airwaves between people, it does seem to turn the scenario of Dating Man Dating Woman completely around and upside down, so the whole archaic dating rule goes topsy turvy.
And that's OK.
Because the future way of the world must be different to the past, otherwise progress just wouldn't happen. So come on guys and gals, let's turn the whole dating rule on its head.
After all this is 2006.
